Fighting Games Community Raising Money for Colleague Who Died Suddenly [Updated]

A well liked member of the fighting game community died two days before Christmas. His colleagues are paying tribute and holding a fund raiser to help his grandmother pay for funeral costs. Nelson Reyes, 28, better known as EMP_Remix (above at left), died on Dec. 23. His passing was confirmed by his sponsor, Empire Arcadia. A wake for him was held this weekend and his funeral on Monday, attended by teammates, friends and family from all over. Reyes’ memorial costs are expect to run $15,000 for his family. In response, this fund raiser was organized. With five days left it has raised more than $10,000 from 371 supporters. The money will be given to his grandmother. EMP_Remix. It was obvious that he was incredibly energetic and enthusiastic, the definition of hype. So it wasn’t a surprise he ended up in the MvC2 Intro video so often when the goal was to highlight the hype the game brought: he was just too infectious. Watching this again, it actually seems very appropriate that the last clip of him is mockingly crying at someone, because Nelson himself would probably be the first person to give us shit for shedding tears for him.
